Osun State Governor, Governor Ademola Adeleke, has explained why political leaders in Osun State decided to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election. According to him, the endorsement was done to protect the interests of the Yoruba people and strengthen unity in the South-West region.
Adeleke said the decision was not based on personal gain or party politics alone. He noted that many leaders in Osun believed it was important to support a Yoruba president who currently holds the highest office in the country. The governor added that backing Tinubu would help the region remain politically relevant and united in national affairs.
The Osun governor also stated that leaders in the state considered development, stability, and cooperation before making their position known publicly. He explained that supporting Tinubu does not stop political competition but shows that the region wants to protect its common interest.
The endorsement has already sparked reactions from different political groups across Nigeria. While some people praised the move as a sign of regional loyalty, others argued that discussions about 2027 are starting too early.
President Tinubu, who became Nigeria’s president in 2023, has continued to receive support from several groups in the South-West. Political observers believe conversations about the 2027 election may increase as politicians begin early consultations and alliances across the country.
