Former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was solely responsible for making former President Muhammadu Buhari win the 2015 presidential election.
According to him, Amaechi explained that Buhari’s victory was the result of teamwork and sacrifices made by many politicians and supporters within the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to him, several party leaders worked together to build a strong alliance that eventually removed the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from power after many years.
He said it was unfair for anyone to take all the credit for the success of the APC in 2015. Amaechi stressed that many influential figures from different regions joined forces to support Buhari’s campaign at the time. He added that the election victory came through unity, planning, and the efforts of millions of Nigerians who wanted political change.
The former minister also noted that while Tinubu played an important role in the formation and growth of the APC, other party stakeholders equally contributed to Buhari’s emergence as president.
The APC was formed in 2013 after several opposition parties merged to challenge the ruling PDP government. The party later achieved a historic victory in the 2015 election, with Buhari defeating then-President Goodluck Jonathan.
Amaechi’s latest comments have sparked fresh political discussions, especially among APC supporters and political observers ahead of future elections in Nigeria.
