Ondo State security outfit, Amotekun Corps, has arrested nearly 100 suspects during a major operation against crime across different parts of the state. Among those arrested were people allegedly pretending to be mentally unstable while secretly working as informants for criminal groups.

Officials of the security agency said the suspects were picked up during raids carried out in several communities following intelligence reports from residents. According to the corps, some of the arrested individuals disguised themselves as homeless or mentally challenged persons to monitor movements and pass information to kidnappers and other criminals.

The security outfit explained that the operation led to the arrest of 99 suspects linked to different offences, including robbery, kidnapping, and illegal activities. Authorities noted that some suspects were found hiding in abandoned buildings and roadside areas where they reportedly gathered sensitive information.

Amotekun said the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to improve security in Ondo State and reduce rising criminal activities. Residents had earlier complained about increasing fear in some communities, especially in remote areas affected by kidnappings and attacks.

The agency warned criminals to stay away from the state, adding that more operations would continue in the coming weeks. It also urged members of the public to report suspicious movements to security agencies quickly.

Amotekun was created by South-West governors to support conventional security agencies and strengthen local security efforts across the region.
